DRC-ZAMBIA-ANGOLA TRIPARTITE MEETING ON THE EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE LOBITO CORRIDOR PROJECT AT THE WORLD BANK THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2026 IN LUANDA
Effective implementation of the Lobito corridor project, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Angola are meeting since Thursday, February 5, 2026 in Luanda around the World Bank, an inaugural coordination meeting in which the Ministers of Transport, Finance and Foreign Trade of these 3 countries take part.
These 2-day discussions focus on policy alignment, investment coordination and mobilization of public and private partners to accelerate economic growth, promotion of intra-African trade and job creation, because the Lobito corridor is a strategic route for trade and transport linking Southern and Central Africa to global markets.
Giving the go to this strategic meeting, the Angolan President, Joao Lourenço insisted on the pragmatism of countries and technical and financial partners to accelerate the effective implementation of this ambitious project.
The Democratic Republic of Congo Congo has a multimodal and multisectoral vision which integrates infrastructure including rails, agricultural service roads and the logistics platform but also trade, energy, special economic zones, industrial development corridors, optical fiber and modern cities, with a first priority phase Dilolo-Kolwezi-Tenge declared the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport, Communication Routes and Opening Up, Jean-Pierre Bemba
During the round table, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya, said that the ratification of the agreement on the facilitation of trade of the World Trade Organization-WTO by the DRC has a positive impact on economic operators with the reduction of costs and delays in the procedures of import, export and transit of goods.
The Minister of Finance, Doudou Fwamba, for his part indicated that the DRC is on reforms to consolidate the improvement of the business climate
For its part, the World Bank, through its General Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, reiterated its firm commitment to supporting the acceleration of the implementation of the Lobito corridor.
