39TH ORDINARY SUMMIT OF HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT OF THE AFRICAN UNION IN ADDIS ABABA THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN TRADE, JULIEN PALUKU KAHONGYA IN THE HIGH-LEVEL PANEL OF THE “ACCRA RESET” INITIATIVE
On the sidelines of the 39th summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union which opened this Saturday, February 14, 2026 in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia,
representing the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo at the high-level panel organized by the “Accra Reset” initiative launched in September 2025 by the Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama, with the main objective of breaking with the traditional development model to place Africa at the center of international cooperation by moving from dependent aid to sovereign investments; the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya developed the theme "Developing around the Great Lakes region as a sphere of prosperity and not as a zone of perpetual conflicts"
To break the economy of wars, panelist Julien Paluku Kahongya made some recommendations including the strengthening of the regional certification mechanism of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region, which must be the only credible passport for African minerals and the urgency of creating an African mineral exchange, instead of allowing prices to be fixed in London and Shanghai, objective, influence the world market insisted the Congolese Minister of Foreign Trade; etc. after having painted the dark picture of the recurring wars of predation which have torn apart the east of the DRC for more than 3 decades.
And in their interventions, the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and chairman of the 'Accra Reset' initiative, the Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, and the Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma insisted on pragmatism by now moving towards concrete actions to realize this great African dream.
