MINISTRY OF FOREIGN TRADE: MEETING OF AFRICAN FOREIGN TRADE MINISTERS HELD THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2026 IN MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE: THE ADOPTION OF THE AFRICAN VISION ON WTO REFORM AND THE PROMOTION OF ELECTRONIC COMMERCE IN AFRICA AT THE CENTER OF DISCUSSIONS
Meeting this Thursday, February 26 in Maputo, Mozambique, the African Ministers of Foreign Trade adopted the African vision on the reform of the World Trade Organization-WTO with the representation of the African Union within this body which regulates international trade, objective, no longer letting developed countries impose their decisions on less developed countries, and this, to the detriment of consensus; but also, make operational the making of joint decisions by African countries to deal with commercial challenges including the increase in customs fees imposed by certain countries.
They also requested the transfer of technologies to boost electronic commerce in the African continent, but also agriculture to reduce the volume of imports of food products.
These decisions which constitute the Maputo Declaration will be defended at the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization-WTO scheduled for March 26 to 29 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
On behalf of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Secretary General for Foreign Trade, Eugène Manga Manga, representing the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya welcomed this position taken by Africa
Note that the Director General of the WTO, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Secretary General of the ZLECAF, Wamkene Mene and the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Adeiano Maleiane who chaired this meeting all welcomed this declaration from Maputo.
