MINISTRY OF FOREIGN TRADE: OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE UNITED KINGDOM-DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 2026 IN KINSHASA BY MINISTER JULIEN PALUKU KAHONGYA
Increasing trade between London and Kinshasa, the United Kingdom-Democratic Republic of Congo Chamber of Commerce was launched this Wednesday March 4, 2026 in Kinshasa by the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya in the presence of the diplomatic corps and representatives of the public-private sectors; a chamber of commerce which will play a major role in the consolidation of the commercial partnership launched on November 25 by these two States, allowing 99.8% of products made in DRC including cocoa, coffee and spices to access the British market without payment of customs duties
During this ceremony, the DRC, which is strengthening the improvement of the business climate, formulated some requests including the opening of a direct London-Kinshasa line of British Airways, the massive presence of British companies in the DRC, to help it locally transform its natural resources and the transfer of skills, but also, the training of producers and companies on compliance with British standards, with the aim of making products made in DRC competitive on the British market, indicated the Minister of Foreign Trade.
This chamber of commerce will strengthen the strategic partnership between the United Kingdom and the Democratic Republic of Congo and thus contribute to boosting economic growth for the benefit of the Congolese population, declared Peter Fernandez Cardy, Chargé d'affaires at the United Kingdom embassy in the DRC.
And to Ben Ainsley, British Deputy Commissioner for Africa, to welcome the efforts made by the DRC in improving the business climate while adding that his country will support the DRC in the process of local transformation of its natural resources.
Note that the business forum and the strengthening of communication platforms will be there, said Dalhia Tshimbbo, member of the Board of Directors of this chamber of commerce.
