MINISTRY OF FOREIGN TRADE: START OF CONSULTATIONS ON THE 3RD REVIEW OF THE DRC'S TRADE POLICY THIS MONDAY, MAY 11, 2026 IN KINSHASA
Consolidation of the integration of the Democratic Republic of Congo into world trade, consultations on the 3rd Trade Policy Review of the DRC, with the support of the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization-WTO started this Monday, May 11, 2026 in Kinshasa, with active participation of experts delegated by the public and private sectors.
This 3rd review will make it possible to identify the progress made, the challenges to be overcome and the important reforms for the expansion of the Foreign Trade sector and the improvement of related economic policies, through plenary sessions, technical sessions and sectoral discussions between experts from the WTO and those from the DRC, because this mechanism aims to periodically evaluate the Trade Policies of Member States in order to ensure their compliance with multilateral rules.
Giving the go-ahead for this work, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya, the Minister of Land Affairs, O'Neige N'sele Mpimpa insisted on the mobilization of all stakeholders, because these consultations are focused on several major axes including measures on imports with the analysis of customs duties, customs procedures and non-tariff barriers, measures on exports with the evaluation of taxes, possible subsidies and incentives tax, sectoral policies and the institutional and legal environment, to thus materialize the vision of the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi based on the promotion of the increase in the productive capacities of the DRC and the improvement of the business climate.
For Michael Kolie, Trade Policy Analyst at the WTO, the report expected at the end of this 5-day work will make it possible to propose vigorous measures to correct structural weaknesses in order to make the Congolese economy more attractive and competitive.
