DRC-UGANDA SUMMIT IN ENTEBBE: THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA IN THE GREAT LAKES REGION

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda are further consolidating their bilateral cooperation, 6 memorandums of understanding were signed this Monday, May 11, 2026 at the State House in Entebbe, under the supervision of Presidents Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo and Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and this, in different sectors including Commerce, to thus increase the volume of commercial exchanges, with the now establishment of mechanisms to put an end to the problem of visa fees, a flagship measure which breaks down barriers by placing citizens at the heart of this new dynamic, Security and Defense with the strengthening of "Operation Shujaa" for the total eradication of the negative forces roaming the East of the DRC including the ADF terrorists, but also, Energy and Infrastructure with the launch of large-scale projects including the joint exploitation of oil in the Albertine Graben, the development of road infrastructure, the Post Office and Telecommunications; but also, Transport, Tourism and Civil Service.

For the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya, this summit has just redefined the balances in the Great Lakes region, because Kinshasa and Kampala have now imposed a local diplomacy anchored on the construction of mutual trust, the unshakeable basis of shared prosperity, he insisted.
