MINISTRY OF FOREIGN TRADE; 6TH SESSION OF THE INTERMINISTERIAL STEERING COMMITTEE OF THE TRADE FACILITATION AND INTEGRATION PROJECT IN THE GREAT LAKES REGION [PIC-PFCIGL]

Modernization of infrastructure to facilitate trade between the Democratic Republic of Congo in the provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu with neighboring countries, the 6th session of the Interministerial Steering Committee for the Trade Facilitation and Integration Project in the Great Lakes Region - PIC-PFCIGL adopted this Wednesday, June 24, 2026 in Kinshasa the readjustment of the 2026 budget to 17,500,000 dollars, the strengthening of project governance by accelerating the execution of field works, the expansion of the PFCIGL on the Lobito and Bananana corridors, with the development of industrial development corridors, but also, the maintenance of all projects in areas under occupation, because they will be executed once peace is restored

Several other recommendations were made to the World Bank, which is financing this integrative project, including the integration of the green corridor project in Greater Equator and the construction and digitalization of one-stop border crossings in the Haut-Uelé province; and this, during this 6th session chaired by the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya, President of the Steering Committee, with at his side the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Muhindo Nzangi and the Minister of Gender, Family and Children, Micheline Ombaye Kalama.

During this meeting the Minister of Foreign Trade insisted on the effectiveness of the Simplified Commercial Regime-RECOS between the DRC and Burundi, then with Uganda, because it grants several facilities to small cross-border traders and populations living along the borders.
