FERTILIZER: EU TO SURTAX RUSSIAN AND BELARUS IMPORTS BY 50%

A few days after the adoption by the European Commission of a 17th package of sanctions against Russia, the European Parliament has just voted for the establishment of customs surcharges on certain agricultural products and fertilizers.

Sugar, vinegar, flour and animal feed, among others, from Russia and Belarus, which were not yet subject to additional duties, will be from July, announced the European Parliament, subject to the Council of the European Union (EU) adopting this new regulation.

The European Union has therefore decided to increase its sanctions against Russian agricultural and agri-food products. The products in Annex 1 will therefore be surcharged by 50%. Above all, Brussels intends to drastically reduce its imports of nitrogen fertilizers by imposing surcharges on them, the implementation of which will be gradual until 2028 (see below).
