MEETING WITH THE GOVERNOR OF SOUTH KIVU, JEAN-JACQUES PURUSI SADIKI ON THE SECURITY SITUATION IN THE EAST AND CROSS-BORDER TRADE
Peace and stability in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, victim of Rwandan aggression with the expected signing of the peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda, but also the evaluation of the implementation of the Simplified Trade Regime-RECOS launched on October 30, 2024 in Kavimvira in South Kivu, on the Congolese side and in Gatumba on the Burundian side by the Ministers of Commerce of these two countries in the framework of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa-COMESA; These points were at the center of a meeting this Saturday in Kinshasa between the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya, Former Governor of North Kivu for 12 years and expert in the management of armed conflicts in the Great Lakes region and the Governor of South Kivu, Jean-Jacques Purusi Sadiki.
The expertise of the former Governor of North Kivu will be used in the process of pacification of the East of the country, said the Governor of South Kivu while welcoming the implementation of RECOS which grants several facilities to small cross-border traders in accordance with the interministerial order Foreign Trade and Finance implementing this Simplified commercial regime which sets at $500 per trader per day to begin with. without payment of customs duties.
On behalf of the Congolese Government, the Minister of Foreign Trade reassured his host that to facilitate cross-border trade, some projects are being implemented and several others will be launched shortly, within the framework of the Trade Facilitation and Integration Project in the Great Lakes Region-PFCIGL.
