COOPÉRATION ALGÉRO-VIETNAMIENNE : 400 millions $ d’échanges commerciaux depuis début 2025

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Algiers, Tran Quoc Khanh indicated that Algerian-Vietnamese cooperation should gain new momentum in the coming months, thanks to several agreements being finalized and various initiatives which will be implemented soon, notably during the official visits of senior Vietnamese officials and business leaders to Algeria this week.

On the sidelines of the 13th session of the Algerian-Vietnamese Joint Commission, the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, is expected in Algeria from November 18 to 20; accompanied by a large ministerial delegation and around twenty business leaders, said the ambassador, indicating that this is the first visit of a Vietnamese Prime Minister to Algeria since 2015, a visit which is of “particular importance” for the two countries, which maintain “exceptional political relations”, and which aims to give “a new dynamic to economic cooperation”, according to the ambassador. The visit will be marked by several activities, including the inauguration of a commemorative stele dedicated to former Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh in Algiers (Raïs Hamidou), in homage to the founder of modern Vietnam who had maintained historical ties with Algeria. The development of economic and commercial relations will constitute a major focus of this visit, with the holding of a business forum co-chaired by the two Prime Ministers. The discussions will focus on economic cooperation, trade and investment, with the aim of establishing “more substantial” cooperation and creating a more favorable environment for economic operators.
According to the ambassador, the two countries have significant potential in several sectors, including agriculture, the agri-food industry, renewable energies, hydrocarbons, the pharmaceutical industry, digital technology as well as services (tourism and transport). Several agreements relating to economic and commercial cooperation should be signed during the visit, “opening new perspectives for the bilateral partnership,” he said. In the hydrocarbons sector, Petrovietnam and Sonatrach, already associated in exploration and export projects in Algeria, should also sign a new cooperation agreement. The diplomat stressed that this partnership constitutes “one of the successful projects of the Vietnamese group internationally”.
Concerning trade, they reached around 400 million dollars during the first ten months of the year, a level “below existing potential” and “not yet meeting the expectations of both parties”, he noted.
The ambassador finally expressed his country's desire to expand cooperation to other areas, including education, culture and sport, recalling that more than 30,000 young Algerians practice Vovinam and many of them travel to Vietnam each year to participate in competitions.
