Imports: Algeria confirms the maintenance of the PPI, with a single exemption
Algeria has taken a temporary and “exceptional” measure concerning the domiciliation of freight-related imports.
At the end of last week, the Association of Algerian Banks and Financial Institutions (Abef) informed its members of the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion to authorize the bank domiciliation of operations linked to transport costs (freight) of imported goods, without requiring the Forecast Import Program (PPI). This derogatory measure is valid until December 31, 2025, according to Abef.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion published a press release to provide clarifications to the ABEF note). He indicated that the latter only concerned “transport costs (freight) for import operations valid until December 31, 2025.”
PPI maintained for all imports except freight
“This measure aims to facilitate shipping operations. Commercial banks are required to provide the ministry with bank domiciliation balance sheets relating to transport costs (FRET) for the same period,” said Kamel Rezig’s department.
The ministry's press release recalled that “all other import operations, whether they concern import activities in the operating and/or equipment sectors, or resale as is, remain subject to the forecast program and the bank domiciliation document issued by our ministry, in accordance with the applicable regulations and procedures. »
To strengthen control over foreign trade, Algeria introduced the PPI on July 8, an essential document for the bank domiciliation of imports and customs clearance of imported goods.
