Importation of raw materials: the State puts things in order
Algeria has just launched a digital platform dedicated to the management and monitoring of forecast raw material import programs for the first half of 2026.
It was the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion which made the announcement yesterday in a press release, affirming that “this initiative marks an important step in the modernization of foreign trade and the strengthening of governance through the digitization of procedures”.
The platform, explained the text, aims to ensure “rigorous monitoring of raw material import operations, guaranteeing greater transparency, speed of processing and reliability of data relating to the forecast needs of economic companies active in the production sector”. This with the aim, adds the text, “to direct imports towards the real needs of the national production system and to strengthen the competitiveness of the national economy”.
Kamel Rezig, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, stressed that the launch of this digital interface is part of the modernization of foreign trade management and the establishment of an efficient digital administration for economic operators. He also announced the upcoming launch of two other digital platforms, one dedicated to monitoring service import operations and the other to sales as is, as part of the establishment of an integrated digital system covering all modes of foreign trade.
The launch of this electronic solution for the import of raw materials comes in a context marked by the instructions of the President of the Republic aimed at guaranteeing the supply of raw materials to companies. During his meeting with Algerian economic operators who participated in the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), the Head of State, as we recall, wanted to reassure business leaders who feared possible blockages or delays in the importation of inputs necessary for the operation of their factories: “Your raw materials are the priority of priorities,” he said. Before adding: “I don’t want any factory to drop its turnover because we didn’t let it import raw materials. If you need to import twice as much, do it! ".
The president reiterated these guidelines during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on October 21, 2024. On this occasion, ordering not to prohibit import operations of raw materials used in production and vital industries. According to the press release from the Council of Ministers, only other import operations remain subject to prior authorization.
Tebboune recalled that Algeria has never banned and will not prohibit imports, stressing that regulatory measures aim only to promote national production and preserve the country's financial reserves, for the sake of stability and strengthening of the national economy.
