A record $770 billion in trade in eight months

According to the report on the socio-economic situation for August and the first eight months of 2026, published on September 3 by the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam's trade reached $109.7 billion in August, down 0.1% month-on-month but up 31.7% year-on-year.

Over the first eight months of 2026, foreign trade amounted to $770.14 billion, a record level for this time of the year and up 28.7% year-on-year. Exports grew by 22.4% and imports by 35.3%, leading to a trade deficit of $20.46 billion.

Exports reached $374.84 billion, up 22.4% year-on-year. The domestic sector accounted for $74.47 billion, up 7.4%, or 19.9% ​​of the total, while the foreign-invested sector, including crude oil, generated $300.37 billion, up 26.9%, or 80.1%. During this period, 33 products had an export turnover exceeding $1 billion.

Imports stood at $395.3 billion, up 35.3%. The domestic sector represented 105.07 billion dollars, up 23.7%, and the foreign-funded sector 290.23 billion dollars, up 40.1%. Over the same period, 43 products recorded imports exceeding one billion dollars.
The United States was Vietnam's largest export market, with $122 billion, while China remained its largest supplier, with $161.9 billion.
