The DRC benefits from the extension of AGOA until 2028

On September 3, 2026, American President Donald Trump officially signed the law extending the “African Growth and Opportunity Act” or the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) until December 31, 2028.
Adopted by the American Senate at the beginning of August 2026, then approved by the House of Representatives on September 1, 2026, this measure makes it possible to maintain the trade advantages granted to beneficiary countries, in particular preferential access to the American market for several key sectors such as textiles, clothing and agricultural products.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is among the beneficiary countries of this system. This extension thus offers Congolese companies the possibility of continuing to export numerous “Made in DRC” products to the American market without customs duties, subject to compliance with AGOA eligibility conditions.

Products with significant potential include cocoa, coffee and palm oil, as well as other agricultural and manufactured products.

“We strongly encourage economic operators to fully seize this business opportunity, for which the DRC has actively advocated with the United States Department of Commerce (USTR) throughout the renewal process,” declared Julien Paluku Kahongya, Congolese Minister of Foreign Trade.

Interested economic operators can contact the Ministry of Foreign Trade, in particular through ANAPEX (National Export Promotion Agency), in order to benefit from information and support on the possibilities offered by AGOA.

For the DRC, this renewal represents a real opportunity for economic diversification, export development and enhancement of national productive potential.
