CUSTOMS DUTIES: TRUMP TAXES UP TO 100% ON IMPORTS OF CERTAIN DRONES
The Trump administration made public a presidential proclamation relating to this and justifies this decision, taken on August 13, 2026, by the desire to protect the national security of the United States in the face of the risks of espionage, to stimulate local production and to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers; a decision that came into force this Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. (04:01 GMT).
Customs duties of up to 100% on a wide range of imported drones as well as certain components, wanted by US President Donald Trump, came into force on Thursday
The new 100% surcharge applies to drones whose take-off weight exceeds 25 kilograms, those equipped with thermal cameras, drone docking stations as well as certain components.
Smaller, less sophisticated models, as well as other parts, will be subject to a 25% customs duty.
In addition to the European Union (EU), the 15% rate concerns Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Taiwan, while the United Kingdom is the only one to benefit from the lowest rate, set at 10%. However, the condition to be met matters more than the rate itself.
