Intra-African trade: a jump to $207 billion in 2024
Intra-African trade grew by 5.4% in 2024 to reach $206.6 billion. This is what the “Africa in Figures” report published by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) reveals.
Afreximbank Executive Vice President for Intra-African Trade and Export Development, Kanayo Awani, highlighted in an article titled “How Africa Can Accelerate Intra-African Trade Dynamics” that there is considerable potential to accelerate the growth of intra-African trade to unlock investment and boost industrialization, including the processing and valorization of natural resources.
Businesses across the continent, she added, face limited awareness of market opportunities. They also have unclear regulatory information and limited access to trade finance. So many factors hinder their ambitions to expand beyond borders.
And to continue that it is in this context that the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) intervenes. Namely: the main commercial and investment platform of the African continent and one of the engines of economic integration in Africa.
Building on the success of its fourth edition, which broke all records in Algiers and generated US$50 billion in trade and investment agreements, IATF 2025 continues to consolidate its position as a catalyst for intra-African trade.
Finally, note that Lagos (Nigeria) will host, from November 5 to 11, 2027, the IATF2027, with objectives of more than 50 billion US dollars in trade and investment agreements, more than 100,000 visitors and more than 2,500 exhibitors.
