Contrary to what was anticipated, globalization is not in retreat

Despite US protectionism, global trade is growing and diversifying rather than shrinking.

Deglobalization (deglobalization) was expected by many observers of international trade. The arguments in favor of deglobalization were indeed numerous: protectionism of the United States with the increase in customs duties and the American desire to relocate production to the United States; US embargo on certain Chinese products and restrictions on technology exports to China; ideological conflict between China and Western countries; desire of the United States and Europe to no longer depend on the rest of the world for strategic products (semiconductors, electric batteries, critical materials, etc.).

We could therefore expect a contraction in trade between countries in goods and services. However, this is not at all what was observed.
