Türkiye/United States: Trade reaches $38 billion
Turkish Minister of Commerce Omer Bolat speaks at the 4th Turkish-American Business Meeting and 19th Türkiye Investment Conference in New York
Turkish Commerce Minister Omer Bolat said on Tuesday that the volume of trade between Turkey and the United States reached $38 billion, amid new momentum in bilateral economic relations.
“The more we develop our economy, increase our exports and improve our balance of payments, the stronger the Turkish economy will become,” he added.
Accompanying Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to New York on the occasion of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Bolat said the United States was Türkiye's second largest export market and its fourth largest supplier. The United States is also the second largest foreign direct investor in Türkiye, while approximately one million American tourists visit the country each year.
The President of ASKON, Orhan Aydin, for his part underlined the strategic objective of increasing bilateral trade to 100 billion dollars.
In New York, Bolat also attended the 19th Turkiye Investment Conference, organized by the Council for Foreign Economic Relations (DEİK), its Turkiye–US Business Council (TAİK) and Citi, to meet with international institutional investors.
According to the minister, the conference helped assess “the strong and resilient structure of the Turkish economy, the opportunities offered by our investment environment and the strategic advantages of Türkiye for global investors.”
Bolat said bilateral trade in goods reached $38.6 billion in 2025, with both countries aiming to increase this volume through mutual investments, co-production and innovation.
In particular, he highlighted the possibilities for cooperation between Turkish and American companies in high value-added sectors such as renewable energies, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, defense and aerospace, automobiles, chemicals, the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnologies and medical devices.
Bolat highlights the role of the diaspora in the economic influence of Türkiye
The Turkish minister also participated in the Global Turks New York Forum, organized by the Global Turks Foundation.
Speaking on this occasion, Bolat highlighted the essential role of the Turkish diaspora in the development of Türkiye's trade relations across the world.
He indicated that Turkish communities established in the United States and other countries have made important progress in organizing the diaspora, believing that civil society platforms contribute significantly to the promotion of Türkiye internationally.
He added that Turkish citizens established abroad constitute a real cultural and commercial bridge between their host countries and Türkiye.
