MEETING OF THE NATIONAL IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE OF THE AFRICAN CONTINENTAL FREE TRADE AREA-ZLECAF CHAIRED THURSDAY IN KINSHASA BY THE PRIME MINISTER, JUDITH SUMINWA

The various developments made by the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area-ZLECAF with the filing of a list of tariff concessions for 6,439 products on which customs duties are applied; because by 2031, the DRC will have completely removed customs duties on 6,230 imported products.

This point was at the center of a technical meeting of the national committee for the implementation of the ZLECAF chaired yesterday Thursday at the Prime Minister's office by the Prime Minister, Judith Suminwa and in which the sectoral Ministers and the heads of some technical structures took part.

The DRC, which made the decision to participate in the ZLECA guided trade initiative, must face the challenges linked to infrastructure and governance by putting in place robust policies like the Industrialization Master Plan and others to realize the dream of the ZLECAF.

In front of the press at the end of this meeting, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya made it clear that the DRC has more to gain than to lose by being in the ZLECAF which aims to establish a single market for goods and services in the 54 member countries of the African Union with the free movement of people and capital for the creation of a customs union which augurs the growth of intra-African trade, he added.

Note that the DRC will host the 16th meeting of the ZLECAF Council of Trade Ministers on April 15.
