African countries, through their Ministers of Commerce, are now committed to implementing a unified trade policy to have common positions, and this, to face the customs duties imposed by the Trump administration, despite the existence of AGOA and the threats of other political-economic unions including the European Union;
but also, to accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area-ZLECAF which augurs the creation of a common African market with a customs union.
Decisions revealed during a press briefing co-hosted yesterday in Kinshasa by the Secretary General of the ZLECAF, Wamkele Mene and the Congolese Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya following the 16th meeting of the Council of Trade Ministers of the African Continental Free Trade Area-ZLECAF which focused on the consolidation of the pan-African payment system and the acceleration of the creation of an export market in Africa.
