Conclusion of the Second High-Level Coordination Meeting on the Lobito Corridor in Lusaka: DRC Calls for a Clear Roadmap with Indicators
Regarding the effective implementation of the Lobito Corridor project, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Zambia, the World Bank, and other partners have reaffirmed their commitment to aligning with a common Master Plan. This initiative aims to accelerate the removal of administrative barriers at borders to boost trade, increase the participation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), and foster job creation.
This was the key resolution of the second high-level coordination meeting on the Lobito Corridor, which concluded on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in Lusaka, Zambia. The meeting focused on developing energy infrastructure to enable the local processing of minerals and agricultural products prior to export, as well as on the financing and execution of priority rail and road projects and border infrastructure, including one-stop border posts.
To accelerate the implementation of this program, the DRC’s Minister of Foreign Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya, advocated for the creation of a roadmap with precise indicators, while also welcoming the European Union's mobilization of €2 billion.
Speaking to the press, the Minister of State for Planning and Development Aid, Guylain Nyembo Mbwizya, stated that the DRC would undertake reforms to harmonize the joint Master Plan for the Lobito Corridor.
It is worth noting that the realization of the Lobito Corridor aims to transform the economies of these three countries and the region as a whole.
